Domestic and overseas first-rate scholars are frequently invited by S.C.C. They don’t come here only to give a single lecture, but also lecture series in order to create a better atmosphere and help the students to have a more extensive international academic vision.
In spring of 2013, Prof. Daum (a professor of literature) and Prof. Wang Rongrong 王蓉蓉 (a tenured professor of philosophy as well as the Director of the Asia-Pacific Research Project), who are both from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, United States, gave a short term course for the junior students. The topic of this course was “Chinese and Western Comparative Philosophy: Laozi and Zhuangzi in English Translation and Tesearch”. The students were required to write their notes, have discussion during the course and write a paper afterwards in English.
In the early summer of 2013, Prof. Yang Xiaosi 杨效斯(笑思), who got his doctor degree of philosophy in Johns Hopkins University and worked as the Director of the Asia Research Center of Lake Forest College in Chicago, gave a one-month course named “Bible Study”.
From September to December in 2013, Prof. Carine Defoort, who is a professor of the Sinology Department, KU Leuven, Belgium and is famous for her research on Mozi and Chinese philosophy, was invited to give an Advanced Course for History of Chinese Philosophy. This English course was for junior, senior students and graduate students. The focus of this course was on methodology and her recent research on Chinese philosophy. Students were asked to have discussions and debates in the class and were guided to write a philosophy paper.
